Excursion to the earth pyramids in Perca
Shapes from the earth
Formed by water and by wind, dug through by storms, its structure torn down and re-formed – the Earth pyramids in Perca are monuments which have been created by nature and they have an exceptional character.
It is just an easy 30 minute walk from the town of Plata to get to the Pyramids. Many South Tyroleans have also remarked that the Pyramids are a little bit similar in their shape to the former Empress of Austria – hence their lovely nickname ‘Maria Theresia’.
A landslide created these dome-like shapes which characterise the massif. When the setting sun immerses the Pyramids in a yellowy red light, awakening mysterious shadows, that’s when you get to experience one of the most impressive scenes in nature.
